The Maeslantkering is the last part of the Delta Plan. The construction is almost as big as the Eiffel Tower, but weighs four times as heavy. The storm surge is build out of two semicircular doors, each 210 meter long. In heavy storms, the doors are driven into the river. In the center the doors reach a height of 22 meter which will be sank to the bottom to close the New Waterway and protect the land behind it.

Besides the Maesland dam the EXPO-INFO paviljon is located along the New Waterway. This striking building accommodates two exhibitions: an exhibition on the maritime traffic in the world port Rotterdam and a changing exhibition on the planning development in Hoek van Holland

In addition, a large foyer / café, where you can enjoy the unique view of the passing traffic on the New Waterway.
